To empower Grade 9 students with functional literacy skills necessary for effective learning, meaningful participation in society, and future economic and civic contribution.
Functional illiteracy is rising in the Philippines. According to EDCOM II, the number of functionally illiterate Filipinos grew from 14.5 million in 1993 to 24.8 million in 2024. Many students can read and write, but struggle to comprehend, analyze, and communicate ideas clearly—limiting their academic, career, and life opportunities.
Tell a Tale is a literacy-driven initiative for Grade 9 students that brings together students, parents, and teachers to strengthen foundational literacy skills through coordinated support.
Literacy is more than reading and writing. It is the ability to understand, think critically, communicate clearly, and make informed decisions. It is a foundation for personal growth, social participation, and long-term success.
Ages 14–15 mark a critical stage of cognitive and emotional development. This is when students transition to deeper thinking,
identity formation, and greater self-expression.
Tell a Tale uses this window to:
Strengthen reasoning, comprehension, and communication
Promote mental well-being through supportive learning spaces
Build resilience and confidence—without clinical labeling

Through guided workshops and activities, we aim to:
Improve students’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills
Support parents in building positive learning environments at home
Equip teachers with strategies aligned with 21st-century competencies
